The First National Bank traces its
history to 1862 when W.H. Flippen
and Milton Parker established its earliest
predecessor, a private loan company,
in Millican. In 1867, after the
Houston and Texas Central Railroad
extended its line north, Flippen
bought out Parker’s interest, moved
to the new City of Bryan, and merged
his lending operation with that of
Guy M. Bryan, Jr., son of William
Joel Bryan after whom the city was
named.
Guy Bryan, along with partners
Frank Clarke and J.W. Howell, reorganized
the financial enterprise as a
private bank in 1873. J.W. Fowlkes
joined Clarke, Bryan and Howell
in 1886, and the institution was
renamed The First National Bank of
Bryan after being granted the eleventh
national bank charter issued in Texas.
The real story of First National Bank has been its reliable and unwavering support of its community and customers. Through economic downturns, civil unrest, two World Wars and the collapse of others within the industry, First National Bank has always been safe and sound, conducting business as usual in the Bryan- College Station area.
Vice Chairman Mike Holmgreen
said, “First National Bank is honored
to have been voted ‘favorite bank’ in
Bryan/College Sta tion. We strive to
provide competitive products, such
as free checking, student loans, consumer
loans, mortgage loans, trust
services, etc., coupled with friendly,
accessible service. As the area’s locally
owned bank, our board of directors
make financial decisions in-house that
affect our community’s citizens, and
we hold that responsibility in very
high regard.”
The First National Bank has an unparalleled history of commitment and dedication to this area, and the bank’s heritage is manifested in the bank’s employees.
“The one factor t hat differentiates and distinguishes First National from the rest of the banking crowd is our unwavering dedication to providing our customers with the best possible service,” Holmgreen said. “Time and time again, we, at First National, hear our customers complimenting our accessible bank officers and executive staff, our timely decision process, our local presence—both physical and phone presence, and our understanding of the B/CS market. We know our community because we have grown along with it!
The First National Bank sincerely and graciously thanks everyone who voted in this survey. Your overwhelming support of our bank is proof positive that we’re meeting the financial goals of our neighbors, and we are firmly committed to continuing that mission."
