Burns Moving & Storage was
established in July of 2005 by president
Marsha Burns. In the short time
they have been in business, they have
built a strong customer base. Readers
of The Eagle voted Burns Moving &
Storage “Best Moving Company” in
the Brazos Valley.
“We are so pleased to be picked
by the people of the Brazos Valley.
This has re-enforced our commitment
to provide the very best of services,”
Burns said. “Our sincere gratitude to
the people of the Brazos Valley. We
will work even harder to live up to the
confidence you have showed us.”
Though Burns Moving & Storage is a new company, the employees have 33 years of experience in the moving industry.
“We saw a need for a full service,
professional moving and storage
company that would give personal
attention to the many needs of families
moving in and within the Brazos
Valley,” Burns said. “By being a locally
owned company, we understand your
needs. I was the wife of a career Army
officer, so moving is not new to me
at all,” she said. “I’ve lived in Texas,
Europe, Washington D.C., and on top
of that, I have 20 years of experience
working for a moving businesses as a
sales consultant. We are a new company
with years of experience.”
As well as offering local, intrastate and interstate moves, Burns Moving also offers other services.
Operations Manager Don Keller
said, “Of the students we have had as
clients most of them hire us as loaders,
which is another service we offer. They
have the vehicle, they just need some
help loading everything up.”
Marsha said, “It is also not uncommon
for someone to call us up and say,‘I am just moving across town, and I
have a pick up truck, so I can move
a lot of the stuff myself. But can you
move our piano?’ In that situation, we
offer a flat fee, and we bring the right
equipment and move the piano. We’ve
also done it for appliances, generators
and so on.”
When it comes to moving, most
people think they are saving money if
they do it themselves. However, what
people may think they are saving in
money may actually cost them in additional
stress, as well as costs t hat might
be covered by hiring a professional,
such as Burns Moving and Storage.
“At first glance, someone might
think they are saving money by doing
it themselves, but for most people I
think they will find they spend less
money and have less hassle if they hire
a professional. Here at Burns Moving
and storage, we can help with as much
or as little as the customer wants. If
they just want an additional experienced
pair of hands to help them
pack we can do that. Or if they want a
whole team with truck to move everything,
we can do that as well.”
Additionally during a do-it-yourself
move, all of the costs- from wrapping
paper, blankets, boxes, dollies
and fuel for the vehicles- usually fall
on the mover. If the D-I-Y mover
decides to rent a truck, they may have
to pay a flat fee for the rental, as well
as a mileage fee and pay for the fuel,
and may be required to pay additional
insurance for the rental vehicle. Then
there is operation of the vehicle to
consider. Inexperienced drivers can
certainly double the cost of a move
with a fender-bender or worse.
“Often when people attempt to
move themselves, they find they keep
incurring costs, and their cheap, do-it-yourself move has turned into an
expensive headache,” Marsha said.
“We determine an estimate based on
the amount of square footage, including
all of the costs, and usually, unless
something was forgotten, it is pretty
accurate. We offer discounts to students
as well as active duty and retired
military. We’ve moved people as far
as across the nation and as short a
distance as across the street or to a
new apartment. We give personalized
service to our customers. Some people
just want us to move large appliances
and furniture and move the rest themselves.
Others have handed us the keys
to the new house and a map and said,‘see you there.’”
Burns said she trusts her staff to provide the utmost care to each family’s move.
“Our experience has taught us
attention to detail must go into each
and every move. We work at customizing
our service to the needs of each
family,” Burns said. “We emphasize
teamwork as an essential ingredient in
a successful move. We plan to continue
implementing this philosophy that
has served us well and will always be
open to suggestions and requests. The
greatest compliment we hear is that
the movers were cautious and worked
hard to do a good job with the family’s
needs and priorities,” she said.
