The ability of a restaurant to serve
great seafood should never be underestimated. Many restaurants dabble
in seafood, serving fried shrimp and
catfish filets, but a truly good seafood
restaurant, one that has perfected it’s
own recipes, is a treasure in itself. We
are fortunate to have such a treasure
right in here in the Brazos Valley
College Station Seafood began as the dream of owner Sovon Thou. Sovon’s previous profession was mechanical engineer, however, his passion was to someday own his own restaurant. Whenever he ate at a restaurant and found a seasoning combination he liked, he would set out to recreate that flavor. This method enabled him to decode and reproduce the secrets of many excellent chefs. This resulted in a menu with a variety of the best recipes he had encountered.
Once Sovon was confident that
his menu was ready, he began searching
for the perfect location. He says
he chose College Station because,“The people were friendly and would
appreciate good seafood.” On August
6, 2004, his dream became a reality
with the opening of his restaurant
located behind Taco Cabana in
College Station.
Once diners discovered College
Station Seafood they were quick to
share the news. Sovon’s recipes began
to develop a following. It seems that
his years of culinary research was a
good investment. When asked about
the success of the restaurant, he says,”I
believe it is because all of our seafood
is fresh and we have a mix of Louisiana
and Texas style taste. It’s not too hot
and not too mild, but just right.”
Another reason Sovon thinks the restaurant has done so well is the way his staff treats diners. He says,”Here at College Station Seafood we’re not just a restaurant, we’re family. We view our staff as family and that feeling is extended to our customers.”
Sovon is also quick to attribute the restaurant’s success to the efforts of his sister Sovan (pictured) who manages the location. “She helps me in so many ways.” It is usually Sovan’s smiling face that will great you upon entering. This warm greeting sets the tone for the great meal to come.
