Mention the phrase “best big
burger in town,” and you’ll likely
be pointed in the direction of at
least one of Koppe Bridge’s two
College Station locations. For 14
years, owners Delph and Glenda
Ross have served College Station the
best burgers in town. Just as they did
in 1999 and every year since, readers
of The Eagle selected Koppe Bridge
as “Best Hamburger” in the Brazos
Valley for 2006.
“Over the years, with dedication
and hard work, the business
grew with the great support of
locals, Aggies, and former students,”
Glenda said. “We now have two
locations and over 45 employees.”
The hometown cooking is what keeps bringing the customers back.
“We’re a locally owned, family
restaurant. Our success is attributed
to the old fashioned hamburgers,
home style fries and a feel good,
relaxed atmosphere,” Delph said.“The specially blended seasonings
and the simple fact that we cook
each burger when it’s ordered have
kept our customers coming back
over the years.”
Along with the cooking goes the friendly customer service.
“Besides the quality of our made to order food, customer service is one of the most important business aspects to our owners, management and employees. We continue to be committed to maintaining the success of Koppe Bridge and our contribution to the local economy and community through our support of local charities and organizations,” Delph said.
Both restaurants enjoy a casual
atmosphere and have a unique environment.
“The Wellborn and Harvey
locations each have covered outside
dining area. Even though the new
Harvey location has no nearby train
track to rumble the building, it does
offer the outside diner an occasional
glimpse of deer who reside nearby,”
Glenda said. “That ambiance is just
one of the things that makes a dining
experience at Koppe Bridge that
is unlike any other in town. This is
Texas Paradise!”
Many customers don’t know how Delph and Glenda arrived at the name Koppe Bridge for their new burger restaurant.
“The origin of the restaurant’s name has been handed down over the years. The building was originally a one-room feed store which was renovated and expanded into the current restaurant site in south College Station. Koppe Bridge was an actual bridge that spanned the Brazos River through the mid-1920’s until it was eventually taken out by floodwaters. It was the only crossing over the Brazos River into the area at that time. After the bridge fell the final time, a local rancher acquired some of the piers and timbers from the bridge that eventually became part of the old feed store’s flooring. The restaurant was named Koppe Bridge as a way to keep the legacy of the bridge alive because it is the ‘foundation’ of our business,” Delph said.
The Rosses are simply amazed at the success of their once small burger restaurant.
“After 14 years in the highly competitive restaurant industry, Koppe Bridge’s formula of serving generous portions, using only the freshest ingredients, cooked with pride and served in a friendly atmosphere, seems to be the winning recipe that all restaurants are seeking,” Delph said.
The Rosses have seen many people walk through their doors, including former President George H.W. Bush, Texas A&M President Dr. Robert Gates, Texas Governor Rick Perry and Senator Steve Ogden.
“Locals, Aggies, Former
Students and visitors continue to
come to Koppe Bridge to enjoy
our made-to-order award winning
burgers and fries made fresh and served in a casual, rustic atmosphere.
That’s why we’ve been voted
Brazos Valley’s Best Burger year after
year,” Delph said. “And, coming
later this summer, Koppe Bridge
will begin serving ‘Simply The Best
Barbeque Around.’ Be sure to stop
by either location for ‘The Best
Big Burger in Town’ and our new
mouth watering barbeque which is
smoked fresh daily. Don’t forget our
daily happy hour serving the coldest
beer and best frozen margaritas in
Aggieland.”
The Rosses extend their sincere gratitude to the people of Bryan College Station for voting them the Readers’ Choice.
